Kevin E. Wolf

Professional Experience

Our firm’s co-founder dubbed Kevin the “fireman,” and he’s been the go-to fire extinguisher for business disputes since joining the firm over 30 years ago.  Currently, Kevin chairs the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice Group.  Representing clients on a national basis, he has frequently been admitted to practice in other states for the defense of specific litigation matters.  He’s litigated over 50 trials in multiple jurisdictions including over 10 jury trials in Wisconsin federal court.  Kevin is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers in America and the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers.

While his litigation career started in insurance defense, it has since evolved to focus entirely on business litigation.  Kevin frequently works with clients to mediate business disputes, provide counsel regarding business risk management, and advocate shareholder/partnership disputes as well as business breakups (business divorce).  He works with businesses on defective products, product liability, and product warranties; construction litigation; management side employment litigation; and, commercial contract disputes.  A former member of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Kevin provides counsel in the area of insurance and reinsurance disputes.

Kevin's passion is taking a client’s issue and finding a way to package it so it’s understandable to others and feels real and alive.  Recent representations include:

  • Two week AAA arbitration hearing defending claims of feed mill design and construction defects.
  • Ten-day trial/adversary proceeding in bankruptcy defending ethanol plant design-builder resulted in a $2.5M verdict upheld at the federal district court level.  Successfully argued before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Colorado.
  • Five-day federal jury trial defending a commercial client on destruction of property claim
  • Tax court defense of deductibility of horse farm losses
  • Claims and litigation management and representation, including Carmack Amendment issues, for a national moving and storage company
  • Representation of several nationally marketed window manufacturers with regard to product and warranty claims and litigation, including construction defect, EIFS and mold claims

Despite his extensive trial experience, Kevin advocates resolving disputes through mediation whenever possible.  He recently successfully mediated a construction company buyout where the co-owners walked away as friends, feeling as though they both received the best possible result.

Kevin is also our firm’s co-representative for Meritas, a global alliance of legal professionals connecting nearly 200 full-service law firms in over 200 global markets.  Ruder Ware is a member firm.  Kevin networks with fellow members, regularly engaging firms from around the country and world, and nurtures relationships to ensure firm clients receive great service if referred.

When Kevin joined drama, forensics, and the debate team back in high school, so began his lifelong commitment to supporting the arts.  Early on he volunteered his time as an actor with the Wausau Community Theatre (WCT).  Since, his involvement has been more behind the scenes.  For nearly his entire career he’s been involved on a variety of committees and in a number of roles such as the board of directors for the WCT and the Performing Arts Foundation where he currently serves on the board.   Kevin gives back to the Wausau community through a number of organizations because he wants to be part of that positive change.  He currently serves on The Neighbors’ Place board where he recently completed his term as president.

A proud husband, father, and grandfather, Kevin is an avid Northwoods enthusiast and can be found spending time with family snowshoeing, loon watching, hiking, or sipping old fashioneds at a veritable Wisconsin institution - the supper club.
